The Marvelous Manic Month of May Part 3: AZ, Medical School Graduation, & UT

May 24
Enjoyed Mom's Relief Society lesson on President Eyring's talk on the law of the fast at church. We had Nana's spaghetti for dinner and James and I packed yet again. We played with Paxton and Nana & Gramps came over to visit. Pax got in the mud so we had to give him a bath!
May 25
We took a flight to Phoenix. We saw the Becksteads at the rental car place, long time no see! We ate Wendy's for a snack and walked around a sketchy mall in Phoenix. We met the Batty's for a late lunch at Manuel's Mexican cafe. It was so great to catch up with them!

Then James and I drove to Williams, AZ and met up with James' family: Mom & Dad, Marissa, and Danielle. We stayed at the Ramada Inn and ate at the homemade pie family country restaurant. We walked around downtown Williams down Route 66. James and I were last here for Labor Day in 2013!

We went to the Grand Canyon together and had a picnic lunch! It was their first time at the Grand Canyon, our second time since we went in 2013.

We drove back to Glendale and stayed at the Residence Inn at Norterra (we LOVED this hotel, would go back in a heartbeat!). James and I went to his medical school graduation banquet at the school and met up with all our friends. I hadn't seen Hailee and Jake for months and for some reason when I saw Hailee and we hugged I burst into tears! I think it was at that point that I realized that we would all be moving away and this was our last time all together (besides graduation day). We had dinner and listened to the long speakers. James got his Sigma Sigma Phi certificate and cords. Ryan and Kelsey Jackson announced their pregnancy and Hailee looked so cute with her baby bump! I was loving talking to all my friends. We took lots of group photos. It was such a bittersweet night!

Happy Birthday to my wonderful Mom!
Today was an amazing and emotional day. My family's flight got cancelled due to weather but James' parents and two of his sisters came out to see him graduate from medical school. It was surreal to see him walk across that stage and officially become a DOCTOR! It was so fun to cheer for our friends as their names were called too. After the ceremony we took lots of photos with our two groups of med school friends. It was very bittersweet!

After I hugged everyone goodbye I started crying as I walked out to the car. It was so sad! I gave James a graduation present: 3 Shutterfly photo books of medical school years 1-3.
We headed back to the hotel and took a swim in the pool! It was fun to record Marissa & James having so much fun together.

May 28
We left Glendale and drove to Jerome and took a drive. Marissa was afraid of the heights as we went around and around and up and up the Jerome hills. We drove to Sedona and had a picnic lunch at a park. We stopped to look at the rock formations and the Chapel of the Holy Cross on the hill. We walked around the shops and got ice cream at the Black Cow Cafe. Then we drove to Oak Creek Canyon and checked out the view there. Lastly we drove to Flagstaff and stayed at the hotel Ramada and had Pizza Hut for dinner. We played cards (Scum) while Marissa swam in the outdoor pool. There was a Walmart across the street so we all walked over and Danielle and I were thrilled to find knee length shorts for $9 each! So I bought two pairs and we all ate Smores Oreos for dessert!

May 29
We drove far and stopped to see the Glen Canyon Dam View. Then we drove to Zion National Park. James, Danielle, & I met up with Spencer & Steven & Kate and hiked Angel's Landing. It was so hard and hot and tiring and sore and long but the view was SOOO worth it!!! We had a long drive home but James and I treated everyone to Costa Vida for dinner. We thought of funny sayings with Utah cities because we were all delirious and hilarious. For example, someone sang the jingle for The Shane Company of Ogden but replaced it with "Duchesne Company" like the city in Utah! Bahaha. Or "James loves Barbie and wants Ken-abs" (Kanab, UT). Haha! Love making silly memories with my family.

May 30
The last day of May brought Hailee Oman's baby shower! One of my best friends, this gorgeous mama-to-be threw one purple shower for their "grape" of a baby girl! They held it at 1-800 Contacts where Hailee & my brother Peter work. Such a nice place and great company to work for! I bought baby girl a flamingo onesie set and a floral swim suit for swimming in Phoenix! After the shower James and I drove around and picked up a free microwave & went to a yard sale where I bought a cute pink desk to turn into a vanity for $20. I watched Pochontas II with marissa & we ate dinner with the family. Holly & Mike came too. Then James and I had temple recommend interviews with Bishop Chapman Dad. Afterwards we watched Napolean Dynamite with Steven & Kate. The night ended with James picking up a different free microwave that actually worked. Haha!
What a MARVELOUS month of May it has been! Now on to new adventures in June!!!

May 31
James and I had temple recommend interviews with the stake, then we went to our church meetings. Pete came over to hang out with us. I gave him the gum cigarette candies from the Old Country Store I picked up for him when we were in Massachusetts. He loved them from our childhood and we had a good laugh. We had dinner together and I showed him pictures from our travels. the home teachers came over and Pete left. Marissa and I watched Mulan and Mulan II together and ate fudge!
