Super Bowl Sunday Snacks-n-Sweets

 Saturday, February 11, 2012

The best part about the Super Bowl is getting together with friends and family to eat scrumptious snacks & sweets. Our good friends Whitney & Trevor invited us into their home (they just bought a cute house!) to watch the game and eat food! The boys watched the game while the girls chatted and only watched commercials--until the last quarter of the game. Here are some poor quality photos (sorry).

I made 7-Layer Dip
Refried Beans, Sour Cream, Guacamole, Salsa, Cheese Sauce, Tomatoes, Olives

The Boys minus Luke who came later

Baby Claire loves her book!

Trevor shared the couch with Ixchel

Whitney, Claire, & Nicole

James, Than, & Chad with Taylee

We had tons of chips, 5 or 6 different dips, 3 pizzas, fruit w/ yogurt dip, veggies n dip, and 4 different
desserts
We ate so much!!!!

Chad's family has a Super Bowl tradition of eating doughnuts

I figured I had to take a picture of the game on TV haha
The New York Giants ended up winning 21 to 17.

Thanks Whitney & Trevor for a fun night!

Easy Date Night

 Saturday, February 4, 2012

      Pinned Image
This weekend James and I had an easy date night because 1) James was exhausted from studying hard for his test on Thursday and 2) James studied the majority of the day for his upcoming test on Monday. By the way, the Thursday test he studied for was Anatomy and he only got 1 hour of sleep the night before. He studied all night, went to bed at 2:00am and woke up at 3:00am. I took him back to the 24/hour study center at 3am. His test was at 7am. He doesn't like people to know his scores on his tests, but let's just say that I am "A" very proud wife :) Good job sweetheart!
SO back to date night--we went to eat at this place:
James has eaten here before, but this was my first time. Can I just say that their subs are SO FREAKING DELICIOUS! Wow I can honestly say that Firehouse Subs is my new favorite sandwich place. They serve their subs on toasted bread and they steam the meats and cheeses to get the juices flowing. YUM!
James got the Firehouse Hero which is premium roast beef, smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, and melted provolone, served Fully Involved (lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, mayo and dill spear on the side).
I got the Hook & Ladder which is smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, and melted Monterey Jack, served Fully Involved.
Here is the picture I took of our sandwiches, definitely not as pretty looking as the ones above, but they were delicious!

Firehouse restaurant decor:

This is a photo I got off the web. I saw this for the very frist time: The New Coca Cola's Freestyle Drink Dispenser. How awesome is that? It's a touch-screen drink machine! I felt so high-tech using it.

Here we are with our delish subs:

After Firehouse, we went home with our Redbox movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes. See previous post for movie review. The best part was cuddling together while eating Haagen Dazs Caramel Cone Ice Cream. Thanks Mom for introducing us to that scrumptious ice cream!

Lastly, thank you my sweet James for having date nights with me every weekend!

Much Love for Movies

I inherited a love for movies from my dad. Pretty much my whole side of the family are huge movie buffs. I love to unwind by watching movies or reading good books. I've been watching movies and reading books like crazy lately. James also loves movies and his favorite types of movies are those that have truth to them. I think it has something to do with his love for learning.
Here are the movies we've watched recently (and by recently I mean the past two weeks):

*Temple Grandin*

Than & Ixchel raved about this movie, so we borrowed it from the library (I LOVE the library because I get 2 of my favorite things, books and movies, for FREE). We LOVED this movie. It stars Claire Danes and she plays Temple Grandin, an autistic woman who overcame the limitations imposed on her by her condition to become a Ph.D. and expert in the field of animal husbandry. This movie of a true life story is amazing.

*The Bucket List*

This movie was cute, funny, and touching. It's about two men who have cancer and spend their remaining time doing incredible things on a bucket list that they've created. Morgan Freeman is in it so if anything, watch this to hear that epic voice of his.

*The Conspirator*

Here is the description that IMDB gives this movie: Mary Surratt is the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. As the whole nation turns against her, she is forced to rely on her reluctant lawyer to uncover the truth and save her life. We really enjoyed this movie and I appreciated that it stars James McAvoy.

*Some Like it Hot*

Starring Marilyn Monroe! My brother in-law, Steven, who is now serving in the Alpine-German Speaking Mission, gave this movie to us for Christmas before he left for the MTC. He said he watched it in school and really liked it! We watched it and thought it was pretty funny. It's a comedy with Tony Curtis (who delivers a hilarious impression of Cary Grant in the movie) and Jack Lemmon. IMDB's description: When two musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all female band disguised as women, but further complications set in. Thanks Steven for this great movie!

*Rise of the Planet of the Apes*

We watched this last night during date night. James and I liked it, but I thought it was sad! I felt bad for the apes, for Caesar (the main character ape), for the biologist/scientist (James Franco), and for the father with Alzheimer's (John Lithgow). Overall I guess it was an interesting twist on how the planet of the apes was created. I enjoyed the Planet of the Apes movies, as did my dad, and I'm wondering how he felt about this movie. I will have to ask him soon while this movie is still fresh in my mind!

Here are a few movies that are out or are coming out in the future that we want to see:
